Is “Giving Value” Overrated?

 by Anthony Kibe

You know, it’s funny how life works. In the last two years that I have been building a business online, my business has gone through total metamorphosis, into a direction that I never dreamed of, couldn’t have if I had tried.

Even though I came online to build my network marketing business, I have found myself directed towards other ventures that are not only more exciting, but more lucrative as well and none of them did I seek. The important thing to know though is that these opportunities didn’t come easy, they didn’t fall on my lap and they sure didn’t just happen because I was online.

Looking back, I can now see what I did right, even though at the time, I was only doing what I was supposed to do. The RIGHT thing I did was invest my time in other people. For one whole year, as I learned how to market online and as I learned what works and what doesn’t work, I was actually spending more time helping those who were struggling, more than I was spending building my own business… which means I wasn’t making much money at all.

At times, I wondered if “giving value” as we call it was all that it was cracked to be, but soon I came to see the rewards that can be reaped from giving unselfishly to others even at the expense of your own success.

What I did right was build relationships. I went from an anonymous guy online so someone that thousands of people knew by name and knew they could get help from when they need it most.

That all led to me meeting my 3 business partners, deciding to work on a project together since we were all doing the same thing online, and eventually, things took off in a direction that none of us could have foreseen.

It was because of that partnership that in 3 months, I was able to leave “Minne-Snow-ta” and move to Las Vegas, something I’ve always wanted to do. Since I don’t have to hold down a job anymore, I can pretty much live wherever I want and my business comes with me in the form of a laptop and a mobile phone.

So, here’s the lesson. Don’t be selfish and don’t worry too much about how much money you’re making or not making with your business. You don’t get anything for nothing but the best way I know how to get more than you even think you deserve is to give give give without asking for anything back. When you learn something new, teach it to someone else. When you find something that works, share it with someone who needs it and don’t ask for compensation.. that will come when it’s rightfully deserved.

Build relationships, nurture them and treat everyone you meet in your business like they’re holding your destiny in their own hands. Do that, and I promise that you will get back a lot more than you ever could have acquired if you just focused on yourself.

It so happens that “giving value” is not overrated after all.

Anthony, You hit the nail on the head, you need to give value or your prospects wont’ grow / want to continue to be with you. I’ve heard the term servant leader before, and that’s something that stays in my head.
