A Lesson in Patience and Google Pay Per Click

 by Anthony Kibe

If any entrepreneur tells you that he or she NEVER had moments of doubts, times when they put their foreheads on the edge of the desk and wondered if the pieces will ever come together so they can enjoying the fruits of their labor—know for sure that they are lying.

More often than not, starting a business, online or offline will always be harder, more challenging and take more time to pull off than you want it to, a lot more time than you assumed it would and especially time than you don’t think you have—after all, who doesn’t want to start making thousands of dollars starting next week and stop worrying about money right?

Truth be told, even with the best tools, training and determination, building a stable and successful business remains a process that requires 3 things. Focus, Discipline and Time.

Take for example Google PPC. You can buy and download 20 ebooks,  5 keyword research tools and pay thousands for private coaching programs but tools, books and private coaching will NOT build your business or generate a single lead. Using the tools and the knowledge your acquire is what will build your business. Google PPC or even SEO are not something you study, they are things that you DO and only by doing them do you discover what works and what doesn’t.

For example, you may write the best ads possible, load the campaign with super keywords and point them to a relevant well crafted landing page and launch your campaign. A few days later, your impressions are going through the roof but your CTR refuses to badge upwards. You shake your head violently wondering why in the world nobody is clicking on your ads

You may spend a week or so, trying different headlines and tweaking your ad copy and still not see much improvement on your CTR. After days and hopefully NOT weeks of frustrating madness, it becomes very clear that it’s not the ad copy or the headline you’ve been tweaking but something is wrong with your super keywords—their evil counterparts (Negative keywords) are missing in your campaign.

So, you restructure your campaign and include a multitude of negative keywords and Voila ! a few days later, your Impressions are way down but your click through is now the one that’s going through the roof. You have arrived.

Moral of the story is this. No matter how well you prepare, no matter how much time you take getting ready, there will be bumps, curves and roadblocks along the way that you couldn’t possibly have anticipated. You’re not going to remember everything you read or learn from books, webinars or your private coach. Sometimes you’ll bang your head on the wall trying to make sense of things that seemed easy on paper but don’t translate favorably in the real world. What should take a day takes a week and what should take a week takes three—because in the real world, you’ll have to go through the process of “learning by doing”… which will most likely be “learning by screwing up”

Time is your friend in this manner. The more of it you allow yourself without stopping and starting over, the more of it you spend in focused and disciplined effort, the better your chances of success are.

Unfortunately, the online marketing industry is plagued by a lack of this fundamental truth…that you can’t possibly hope to get anywhere if you’re in a rush to “achieve” whatever it is that you want to achieve. Only in Online marketing do people plant mango  trees and hope to start picking mangoes in a few weeks and quit when the tree doesn’t shoot 20 ft into the air before Christmas. (what can I say, I like mangoes)

Like it or not, building your online or network marketing business is going to take time. Take that to the bank.  But think about this, when it’s time to build your next campaign, you sure will remember to load it with negative keywords so you can decrease your impressions and increase CTR. (sorry if you don’t have a clue what all this means. Time focus and discipline will clear it all up for you)

Your second campaign will go much smoother and faster but ONLY because your first one didn’t—which taught you a lesson that can only be learned by getting down and dirty, making mistakes and allowing your brain enough time to process and compartmentalize everything you’ve learned until things begin to fall in their rightful places and the light bulbs come on.

I leave you with this. No matter how tough, frustrating or confusing it gets and even if you don’t know the difference between CTR, CPC and CPA—and if you don’t even generate one single lead in 3 months or more, the worst thing you can do is QUIT.

People in this industry don’t fail, they quit. Decide today that you will give your business the Focus, Discipline and Time it deserves even though it might take longer than you would like it to. The only way you can guarantee that there will be fruits to pick and and eat is keep tending and watering the tree—to fruition.

And just so you know, that other thing you think you should go do ’cause it looks easier and could make you money faster, it’s nothing but greener grass on the other side.

No matter what business you choose to build, the challenges will be similar. Don’t keep starting over. Stick with what you’re doing until it WORKS. After all, if you don’t have challenges in your life, you will never be the person who overcame them.

To your success and mine.
